I was inspired to start supporting and encouraging adult children, when my life felt like it was upside down back in 2012. At that time, my mom suddenly could not walk. As an only child I did not have anyone else to turn to for support other than her amazing siblings.
Fortunately for me, my mom and I had joint accounts and had been very open about her wishes. She was confined to a hospital for months and at least another six months in a skilled nursing facility for rehab. She had a mortgage, car, utilities, cable, the list goes on. You can imagine she was maintaining her own household. I could not maintain her home, my home and her expenses in the facility. I had to take over managing all of her finances and affairs as a result we had to have legal documents created.
